Due to the fact that nylon made fishing nets are relatively easy to recycle, circular economy is already a reality for this type of nets. On the other hand, the recycling of fishing nets made of polyester encountered difficulties from start, namely: the recycling process itself, the making of new goods out of the recycled resin and, finally, the high cost involved in the whole operation.
In these circumstances, and under the leadership of Teijin, Project [Re:ism] saw the light in 2021 with a view to collecting and recycling end-of-life fishing nets made of polyester. This team includes Kinoshita Fishing Net, one resin maker and 5 more companies (7 in total), working together to develop products like, for instance, tableware and trays made of recycled fishing nets resin. Within this team, Kinoshita Fishing Net has the task of building a system to collect end-of-life fishing nets. When this system will be fully in place, the environmental problem posed by the landfill disposal of polyester fishing nets will be something of the past.
Project Re:ism contributes to reduce the burden on the environment and to promote a decarbonized society by marketing products made from recycled resin. We are developing a large range of upcycle goods, from tableware and trays made from resin to bags and insulating materials made from fibers.
