Corporate Vision

As a key company in marine fisheries
We endeavor to protect the fisheries and the biodiversity of the sea

AO Project started with this aim in mind:
Most fishing nets are made from petrol.
By reducing the use of petrol, a scarce resource in our planet, we can fight both, climate change and the depletion of natural resources. In a country like Japan, that lacks abundant natural resources, end-of-life fishing nets must be considered as an important recyclable resource.
By pursuing a carbon-free society, in which manufacturing of goods is based on placing a low burden on the environment, we protect the future of fisheries and the biodiversity of the sea.
Kinoshita Fishing Net, being a leading world fishing net manufacturer, seeks to support the Japanese fisheries and become a key company in the marine sector.

Helping to create a carbon-free society by developing a circular economy for end-of-life fishing nets

The origin of Project AO

The sea, essential for the existence of all species on the Earth, manifests its power by providing a treasure of renewable resources. We can witness the greatness of the Planet through the diversity of marine life and the rich blue and green colors of the ocean. AO Project was born from our desire to see that the riches of the sea is preserved.

The Japanese food culture and the importance of fisheries

Being surrounded by the sea, fisheries has always been an essential sector for Japan. Fisheries not only has created a food culture in Japan but has also contributed to the creation of idiosyncratic cultural traditions. It is not an overstatement to say that fisheries has been, and still is, a fundamental pillar of Japan. Kinoshita Fishing Net's role in fisheries is not relegated to the supply of necessary nets for the industry; in partnership with other companies that share the same will, we are involved in the recycling of end-of-life fishing nets in order to contribute to the achievement of a decarbonized society.

  1. AO project01

Chemical recycle of end-of-life fishing nets made of nylon

20 years ago, to contribute to decarbonized society, we pioneered the recycling of end-of-life fishing nets made of nylon. Working with our partners, we established a system for the chemical recycle of these nets.
Following the trends created after the adoption of the SDGs at the September 2015 United Nations Summit, recycled nylon resin and recycled nylon fibers have been recognized as being environmentally friendly, and are being used nowadays by many high end brands to manufacture their products.

  2. AO project02

Material recycle of end-of-life fishing nets made of polyester

The establishment of a system to recycle polyester made nets and manufacture new goods out of the recycled material was technologically more difficult to accomplish than that of nylon nets.
Thanks to the leadership of Teijin, a team of 5 companies was born. Each member company brings to the team their special know-how to put in place, together, a recycling system of collection and recycle of end-of-life fishing nets, and, design, manufacture and marketing of upcycle goods made from the recycled material.
